How to stop a car with no brakes (Brakes Fail)

Saturday, 2 August 2014
Hello Friends, welcome to Torque - The Automobile Show. Hearing Brakes Fail, the first thing what happens is, that your heart starts beating fast and why not, brakes are the most important safety features in every vehicles. One should never compromise in any safety features in their vehicles. One should always check and get serviced their vehicles at every regularly intervals or when needed. Before u hit hard on acceleration do check the braking power. But what if you accidentally meet up with brake failure? So here in this post we will be sharing some useful tips on how one can stop his vehicle when he faces brake failure.

Today in this post we will be sharing some tips on how to stop your vehicle when you face brakes failure at high speed and even at low speed.

While driving at high speed and your brakes are fail:

  • The very first step is the relax and be calm. Sometimes being hyper can make situation more worst.
  • Immediately begin downshifting the gears if you have a manual transmission, shift to third, then second and then to first as the speed drops.
  • As you downshift, pull the handbrake up, but be careful of locking the rear-wheels as that can result in the car going into an uncontrollable skid and complicate the situation.
  • Keep pumping the brake pedal as sometimes there may be some residual pressure that helps in braking.
  • Switch off the ignition, with the car in gear and clutch released to try and brake the vehicle with engine drag. But do this only once the car has slowed down considerably, otherwise you will lose steering control and what little brake assist remains as well.
  • Apply horns as well as use flash/pass.
  • Keep full control on the steering wheel. Drive away from the obstacle, toward the side of the road. Keep swerving the wheel slightly as this increases friction and can slow the vehicle a bit.
  • Driving into sand on the side of the road to increase friction. Don’t try brushing against the divider or hill-side at speed as this can damage the car badly or even flip it over leading to a fatal crash.
While driving at low speed and your brakes are fail:
  • Downshift to first gear quickly. Release the clutch and don’t accelerator at all.
  • Pump the brakes. Rapidly press and release the brake pedal, you may get some braking action, just enough to slow or stop the car. Keep pumping in 5 seconds delay.
  • Switch off the ignition, with the vehicle still in first gear. Don’t press the clutch, let the dead engine do the braking.
  • Pull the handbrake up gently and bring the vehicle to a halt.
  • If you are driving in traffic and the brakes fail, switch on your hazard lights, headlights and keep pressing the horn to warn other drivers.
  • If there’s sand, mud or slush on the side of the road drive into it. It will slow down and stop the car due to friction.
  • If you are close to the divider or curb, drive toward it and brush the tyres slightly against it to help stop the vehicle if needed. Don't do this if your are at high speed.
Important Tips:
  • After you drive through water or after your vehicle is been washed, always gently pump the brakes to dry out the pads and discs. Water in the brakes can lead to brake failure, or the brakes not holding as needed.
  • you will have an inkling of an impending brake failure by the behavior of the brake pedal. If the pedal loses its feel and feels soft and mushy, get it checked immediately.
  • Check the brake fluid level. If the pedal goes hard and loses vacuum boost, is another sign of impending brake failure.
  • Watch out for include noisy brakes, grinding, screeching or whining sounds from the discs or drums and a smell of hot metal burning as brakes generate plenty of heat.
  • Check your brake fluid levels weekly. Check and inspect the brake pads and discs at every service and get the pads replaced at the recommended intervals.
Note: Always think first about your safety. Don't compromise or neglect and signs regarding your safety.

Drive Safely !!

Boosting Car Mileage (Tips)

Tuesday, 29 July 2014
Hello Friends, welcome to Torque - The Automobile Show. Today in this post we will be sharing some useful tips by which one can boost his cars mileage.

Tips:

Use less RPM: To improve your mileage it best to drive in the economy mode. Try to use less rpm.

Tyre Pressure: Its always best to check your tyre pressure in regular intervals. Apart from safety concern it also helps to boost your mileage.

Turn OFF Air-conditioner when not required: Turning your cars air-conditioners when not in need will add some extra mileage for your car.

Off engine at stop light/pit: Have a habit to stop the engine whenever you stop at and stop lights or while you are waiting.

Say NO to rash driving: You must drive car in a decent way. Rash driving will not only put your life in danger by inviting uninvited accident, but also your vehile will consume lot of gas.

Proper maintenance/servicing: Your vehicle should be properly maintain by getting serviced in regular intervals. Cleaning of parts like air filter, etc will help you to get proper mileage.

Tune-Up your Engine: You can tune your engine to increase the mileage of your vehicles. But beware, you tune up for mileage and not for power/performance.

Buy quality Fuel: Always put quality fuel/gas in your vehicle. No two fuels are the same, and while 'discount' brand fuel may save you a few cents, it can contain a higher percentage of ethanol, which burns at a faster rate. Compare the mileage between fuel companies and see what is best for your car. Try to use only one brand fuel for your car.

Google Car - A car with no steering wheel, Driver, Accelerator pedal & Brake pedal

Wednesday, 28 May 2014
Hello Friends, welcome to Torque - The Automobile Show. Google has revealed its prototype car named as Google Car. Google car has created a havoc in people minds due to its amazing features. Google car is a car which doesn't have a steering wheel, also the car doesn't have an accelerator pedal nor brake pedal. you don't need to drive Google car, as the car is driver-less.

Chris Urmson, director of Google's Self-Driving Car Project said in a post on Google's official blog, "Our software and sensors do all the work. The vehicles will be very basic-we want to learn from them and adapt them as quickly as possible-but they will take you where you want to go at the push of a button".

These cars have sensors that remove blind spots and they can detect objects out to a distance of more than two football fields in all directions. Google has capped the speed of these first vehicles at 40kmph (25mph). Its an electric car. It will have only basic comforts: a space for passengers' belongings, buttons to start and stop, and a screen that shows the route. The front of the cars contain about 2 feet (61 cm) of foam and the windshield is made out of plastic instead of glass to make the cars safer. The car still requires a human to remain in the driver's seat and to take over in certain situations, the car operate completely autonomously.
